Our users have always had the option of using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to create a secure encrypted connection between their computer and CheckMarket. If it is now turned on by default for all users and all surveys.
What is SSL (or HTTPS)?
SSL verifies the identity of a company (CheckMarket) over the internet with a certificate authority. If everything checks out, CheckMarket and your computer establish an initial connection called a handshake. During the handshake the connection will determine which kind of encryption or scrambling it will use. The agreement created during the handshake is used to set up a secure connection between CheckMarket and your computer, called a Secure Socket Layer (SSL). Now the connection between CheckMarket and your computer is secure, and not at risk from third party infiltration.
How do I know if my connection is secure?
You will see ‘‘https://’’ at the beginning of the URL (note the “s” in “https”, meaning “secure”). A small padlock image in the address bar is another sign that a website has a secure connection. With a click on the padlock, you can view the full SSL certificate details.
Limitations
While SSL helps protect your sensitive survey data, it does not provide complete security against all potential risks (such as viruses and malware). When connecting over SSL, it is still good to keep online safety best practices in mind.
CheckMarket puts security first
Turning HTTPS on automatically for all users and surveys is another example of how CheckMarket takes security seriously.
Next step: two-step verification
If you have not already, be sure to turn on two-step verification which adds an extra layer of security to your CheckMarket Account. In addition to your username and password, you’ll enter a code that CheckMarket will send you via text or a mobile app. CheckMarket was the first survey tool to offer two-step verification. We encourage all users to activate this free security feature immediately.
